Hello everyone!

As a participant in the Masters' Union Product Management mastercamp, I recently had the exciting opportunity to embark on a project that both challenged my product management skills and served a noble purpose. I developed a mobile application called 'Volunteer India' using Glide, an incredibly user-friendly app builder that utilizes Google Sheets as its backend.

The objective of the Volunteer India app is to connect passionate individuals with volunteer opportunities across India, ranging from medical camps to community trash clean-up events. The application allows users to view the details of these opportunities, including their location, address, and date. As a user, you can also sign up to volunteer directly from the app!

One of the primary requirements was to list volunteering opportunities with comprehensive details, such as location, address, and type of opportunity. Using Glide’s intuitive interface, I was able to achieve this by linking my app to a Google Sheet filled with relevant data for each volunteering opportunity.

To collect responses from interested persons, I incorporated a form feature within the app. This form allows volunteers to sign up for opportunities and provides fields for their name, gender, and contact details. Each form submission is automatically saved into my Google Sheets, effectively creating a real-time database of all volunteers.

In addition to listing volunteering opportunities and collecting volunteer sign-ups, I also developed a dynamic dashboard that offers a visual representation of the volunteer count broken down by gender and month. The dashboard was designed to provide insights and trends about volunteer participation, which would aid in strategic decision-making.

To make the dashboard a reality, I dove into Google Sheets' functions, specifically COUNTIFS. This function enabled me to compute the count of volunteers based on gender and month. I then created two additional sheets in my Google Sheets - 'Monthly Volunteer Data' and 'Total Volunteer Count' to store these computations. Using the chart feature in Glide, I was able to visually represent these counts on my app’s dashboard.

The entire process was a roller coaster of learning and experimenting. Glide’s ability to seamlessly integrate with Google Sheets presented a unique way to build an app without any need for traditional programming.

This project was not only about building an app but also about serving the community. With Volunteer India, I hope to create an impact by mobilizing individuals towards volunteering and social service, making it easier for everyone to contribute to the betterment of our society.

I am proud to have developed Volunteer India as part of my journey with the Masters' Union Product Management Mastercamp, and I am eager to keep enhancing this app based on user feedback and needs. Access the Website Here
